Nails & String Art

Bonjour, Hello everybody!

From now, I'll try to write my blog both in French and English to satisfy all my visitors (even if french are mostly family!)

This time I want to show you THE project that made me discover Pinterest and then Pintester.com (go there, she is hilarious!!)

Before going ahead with big ass project, I wanted to try on a smaller one, so I tried the heart one, not on wood, but on cork.

Here is my result. It's not that bad, but I used regular nails, instead of the recommanded ones (couldn't find them in France) and they were too dirty, too big and with different length.

 I like it though.

Et voici ma version avec du texte.

J'ai un peu modifié le truc, voici ce que j'ai utilisé  / I modified a little bit the example, here is what I used:

linoleum nails from Home Depot
assorted embroidery floss (bought 24 but used less)

I wanted a nice finish so I cut the cork and placed it behind the canvas (painted cork is not good-looking from close)

For the text, I wanted to try something more ... motivating than "Dream" so I chose "Shake it"!! I used the same font as the original except my text was longer so I had to reduce the size to fit my canvas.

I printed my text and taped it on the canvas, and now HAMMER TIME!!

At this point I had several problems:
1°/ I started from the left and when I hammered the nails, my wrist laid on the paper and when I took off the paper, I saw black ink marks on the canvas.
2°/ Some letters are too small to put the thread in.
So, first, I decided to finish with my nails and spray paint everything in white, then I decided to put the threads on the outside instead of the outside.

I put all the threads and here is the result!

White nails look much nicer like that actually!

I still have to find out how to hide the outside nails and then it will be really finished.

Thanks for reading guys!

The Pintester Movement v 2.0

Hi everyone!

I am very happy to participate to that Pintester Movement v 2.0.

This time, the instructions were the same, except you have to try a pin Sonja Foust (THE Pintester!) already tried.

So, I decided to try the DIY Candle Design, because that's the only one I felt in the mood to do!

Here is the original post with the instructions: A Girl in Paradise Blog

Here is the Pintester's post: http://pintester.com/2013/02/diy-candle-designs/

And here is MY version! I had everything except the candle so I went to find one but I didn't know it was that hard to find a fucking simple white candle! The closest I found was a coconut scented candle.

This is my design, very personal as you can see!

Too short, I burnt my fingers...

Et voilà!

It actually works pretty well! I think it would be hard to fail at this one. If I can find regular white candles, I will make more, but with a better design! (Yes I did it at work, don't judge me!)

Thank you Sonja!!
